Where can I download eWorld?

I know it probably won't work, but I'm interested in obtain the original eWorld. The reason is that I don't knew it (I'm a Mac user since... 2010!), but I think it was a really interesting idea.

If you can't give me the original application, I would appreciate an eWorld clone (not Remember eWorld, great service, but not real Sad )

Thanks in advance Smile

One location for eWorld here is on this Performa CD. On the CD, its located inside the folder labled "Hard Disk Files" ---> "Applications Files". As it is pre-installed, there will be other parts belonging to it loose inside the folder named "System Folder Files", likely inside the Extensions folder and the Fonts folder (all of these folders are located in the "Hard Disk Files" folder of this Performa CD).

Both the Tour and full eWorld application are there. Not much use to anyone now, but may give you some insight to what it was about. There's also a bunch of other programs that may be of interest on the CD (Power Pete, ClarisWorks 4", Expresso, etc).

The Performa CD is in two parts in .RAR compressed format and extracts to .ISO

I can help, I'm pretty sure I have the eWorld install CD. I have to do a little digging but I should be able to have it for you in a few hours from now. Gotta do a few things first.

I just stumbled on this auction on ebay.au for the original floppies and packaging. Might be of interest to some here.

@macnut: I didn't think it came on CD as well. Be interesting to see that if you manage to dig it out.

I found it but it's on the MacOS 7.5 Update CD. I thought it came on a standalone CD but I was incorrect. It came on floppy discs and some Installation CD's and MacWorld CD's but never on it's own. I'm working on getting you a link but I'm having some upload difficulties at the moment. I will have it for you shortly

Oops, I had the original floppy disk set, identical to the sale item on eBay, picked up for free at one of the MacWorld Expo's I went to in early 90's. I can remember the floppy disks, but I don't seem to have them any longer - well I don't have the original packaging.

espectalll123 - I'm sorry I haven't gotten this uploaded yet. I have had a lot going on in the house I will get that up here tonight I promise.

@Sheepmyshaver123 - I have a ton of pre OSX stuff, if you have any specifics I can see what I have. I have been working on consolidating it all and getting it burned to DVD's for archive purposes. I have some Apple branded CD's but what they all are I can't remember off hand. Most of the Apple branded stuff is System software which most of it is up here on the garden already. I know I have a huge stack of Macworld, MacUser and MacAddict CD's that all have stuff on them as well. It seems that getting the stuff to upload is my biggest issue. I have to do it from my PC as my Mac's are rather outdated and internet useless. Also I noticed my G4 and my thumb drive don't get along and play well together under 9

@MacNut9765: This software also needed the serial number and user-name that came on a separate "invitation" sheet to install.

I also discovered that I had this on a MacWorld CD and still have the SN# invitation. eWorld 1.1 can be downloaded from here for those who are curious.
MD5 checksum and filename: 23c735a636c1fa7eb410961a61b4ce61 *eworld-11-img.cpt

I've made a Disk Copy 6.x ".img" (archived with Compact Pro) of eWorld 1.1 and have included the self-running demo of eWorld that was also on the MW CD. It includes the SN but I think that only the demo of eWorld will be worth the effort of running and that doesn't require an SN to run.

There was something about the .img that Stuffit did not like. Stuffit would compress it and it looked to be OK but the Stuffit Expander refused to extract it - I tried to re-create the archive on different Macs, too. I ended up using Compact Pro to compress, it did a better job of this one and Stuffit Expander can extract it OK as well.

Dragging "eworld-11-img.cpt" onto Stuffit Expander, extracts it OK as is, but if using Compact Pro to extract this, the file's "Creator Type": CPCT and "File Type": PACT may have to be restored before Compact Pro can "see" it.

Can you list all of your pre-OSX Apple CDs?

Also, I've found this auction. eWorld CD-ROM from 1995 to be purchased for eBayers.

Oh, thank you Mike for uploading that for him. I keep getting errors for some reason even on MegaUpload. The serial that came with it was to get you online for first time access. Most disks came with "Free Hours" for new accounts and those numbers was to be able to get the benefit of those hours. If you had an established account those numbers were moot, you would just use your normal login and password. Just for kicks I installed it on my G4 a bit ago and it installed fine then went to the auto first time login. It tried to dial up which was hilarious because I have no phone line however the modem dialed anyway. I didn't even realize I still had a modem LOL It was funny to hear that sound again, it's been soooo long since the last time I heard it. If I had a landline in the house I would have loved to see what it would have said after it dialed the number. A dialog box probably would have popped up and said nothing more than "Seriously?"
Anyway, it will error after the failed attempts on the dial up and bring back to the login screen. At that point your free to basically stare at that or rip the program to shreds in ResEdit.

@Sheepmyshaver123 - Are you talking about specifically Apple branded or anything Mac pre OSX?

On that auction I find that amusing. $25 for something that won't work? Now that I seen the pictures from that auction I know I had a ton of those things in the past. I think they went along with my America Online coaster collection which was updated monthly for years LOL. I guess a hard core collector would want them. Funny, there were so many things that I now wish I would have saved had I known. I guess the same goes for the guys who used 57 Chevy's in demolitions

@Macnut9765: YW. I thought that it would immediately try to run a dial-up modem on launching it LOL. - The self-running demo of eWorld will be a much more rewarding experience here Puzzled

Got to agree about that ebay sale. Who on earth would seriously want to pay for this coaster? Gee, I better hang onto my copy for a few more years Glasses

Apple-branded software discs. That's the key to my knowledge for collection purposes.

And thanks to all of you, especially to Macnut9765. I've (almost) never seen before people like you, helping without wanting anything in return, on all the Internet. So, I think that Macintosh Garden is now my favourite garden Tongue

Thank you Espectalll123, all I did was screw up an upload multiple times....no need to thank me. LOL Apparently you haven't spent much time on good forums. People on any respectable forum is always happy to help other enthusiasts regardless of the subject for the sake of supporting the hobby. I belong to forums ranging from Macintosh, Automotive and even gardening. Plenty of good people out there willing to help. I'm sure I speak for everyone on here that it is our pleasure to do so when possible. Enjoy!
