Unusual mac network port problem

I'm encountering a problem i've never seen before: whenever i hook up a network cable to the printer port, the computer stops registering the keyboard and mouse. Any advice?

Guess is that it's not the printer port.

As bertyboy say, or faulty/wrong cable.

The cable is fine. It works for several other things. And the keyboard and mouse normally works. And the keyboard and mouse aren't fully disabled. You can still move the mouse pointer, but you can't click.

I'm using a DB25 to DB9 cable, linked on the other side to a db9 port on a laptop, running PC MacLan

And the cable doesn't even have to be attached on the other side. If it's plugged in on just that side, the same thing happens.
