Star Wars: Galactic Battleground Help.

I've downloaded the 700mb file from megaupload.

But, it has a CD check as soon as it starts up. Following the advice from the Macintosh Garden page for the game, I've found some blank CD to burn the game onto.

But that's where I'm having trouble.
When I begin to burn the (toast image with the hard drive on it?) onto the disk, it gives me an error. When I begin to download the image of the (white rectangle that the toast image gives you?) onto the disk, I get the same error.

(This disk did not verify correctly and is unreliable. Because this disk is unreliable, discard it and try again using a new, blank disk. Error code 0x80020063))

I don't think the disks are to small, because the files themselves are all just under 700mb.

What specifically am I supposed to download on the CD?

My CDs are CD-R recordable, 52x, 80min, 700mb.
I have a Mac OS X, version 10.4.11.
Processor: 800 MHz PowerPC G4

I noticed that someone left a comment on the game page with the same problem. So it may be an issue with image itself. I did come across some English versions of both the original and Clone Campaign. Someone applied the NOCD patch and put them into DMG images.

It's too bad I've yet to find a decently priced copy of the game or an actual image of the Mac version. Me and my brother loved playing the PC version against each other. Wink

It would be amazing to find a NOCD version of the mac version, or even a way to properly to burn it onto the CD. It looks like a great variation of AoW 2's game engine, and I'd love to play it. Even if it's in Dutch.

The prices for an actual copy are outrageous. I would love to play the game, but not for that hefty of a price.

If anyone has anymore advice, please let it be heard.

Seems to work with SheepShaver OS9. The SWGB folder is supposed to be copied to ones HDD.
The game is in German by the way.
As it is, it can not be made believe the CD is there with Virtual DVD Imager in SheepShaver.
There must be the CD physically available.

I'll try to keep the help points clear and simple.

1. Get a copy of Toast - http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/toast-5-titanium and install it.
2. Lock the SWGB.toast disk image file in the FInder
3. Start up Toast, select "Copy" tab at the top, "Image File" in the pane on the left.
4. Drag the locked SWGB.toast image file into the main Toast window.
5. Click the big red button.

That said, it may be the image file, but it's more likely there is some ambiguity in the instructions on burning the discs. Checked the page and it says that this is the german version, does it play OK in english once installed ? I have a retail version of this, came in a bundle of CD's in one of my old £0.99 bargains. Mine played in english language so I presume it would be the English version. It used to crash on me about an hour into each game (MDD 2GB 10.3.9) so I stopped playing it, I preferred Age of Empires & AoE II anyway (same game as this allegedly just different sprites) which didn't crash.

The game seems to run, if the image was burned correctly.
If you dont have Toast, convert it to IMG and burn with something free, like LiquidCD.

That'd be awesome 24bit, I'd like to see if that will work.

Well, I mounted the toast image in toast, making it into a CD, thus solving my problems.

Not exactly however, anytime I try to start a game, the game crashes on me. Be it a scenario, or instant action. As soon as the gameplay is supposed to start, it loads, flashes my desktop (with 256 color settings), goes black again, then takes me back to my desktop a final time, telling me that Star Wars Galactic battlefield as unexpectantly quit on me.

Also, although I realize that the game was going to be in German, is there any way possible someone could upload a version of the game in full English? I never realized how lost I was without my native language. :]

Update, I've gotten the game to work properly.

However, could someone upload a version that is in English?

I see that I neglected to say that I would upload those "No CD patched" versions I got a hold of. Wish I had found original images... Ah well.. You can't have them all I suppose.

I'll try to get them uploaded within a few days. Wink

Well it turns out that they were the actual images! What confused me about them being "no cd" patched was that Clone Campaign could run without the SWGB CD.

Using Disc Utility in Mac OS X I've converted them to cdr for easier use. I want to mention that while mounting the cdr with Toast 5.2.3 works in Mac OS X. You must burn the image to a CD for Mac OS 8.6 - 9 to play SWGB. (It must be Toast 5.2.3, 5.0.2 didn't recognize the cdr and burned a coaster.)
If you plan on just playing CC without the music, then you can just mount the images in Toast and install them.

I finished uploading SWGB last night: http://www.mediafire.com/?1643u6v4k83s5
I should have Clone Campaign uploaded by this evening. Wink

How would I go about getting those files to form the game? When I download them, they come in a text format. What should I do?

They are segmented using Stuffit. All you have to do is drop the file ending with the "1" onto Stuffit Expander and Stuffit will reassemble the sit archive containing the cdr image. Just make sure you have all three parts in the same folder.

Edit: SWGB CC is now uploaded. Laughing out loud

You sir, are my hero. Not only did you take the time to upload this game not only for myself, but for others as well, but you also helped me to understand how to use Mediafire and Stuffit. Thank you, and kudos.

Now everyone can enjoy Star Wars in English. Nothing wrong with German of course though. ;]

No problem Scott. Wink Maybe we'll see each other on the battlefield eh? We could even create a topic here and try to get several more people to play. Laughing out loud
