OS 9 on G3 iBook

YesterdayI picked up a 900mhz G3 iBook, 256mb ram, combo drive and 40 gig hard drive, from a yard sale for $30. Since I had to get rid of my G4 sawtooth which I was using for OS9 games I thought I would replace it with this. The machine was running well with Panther installed. I did not have the install CD and the seller could not provide the admin password

I downloaded this

http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-922-ibook-install

and extracted the files. I burnt the cd using disc utility on my macbook. I inserted the cd in my 900mhz g3 iBOOK. The iBook booted from the cd, I initialized the disc but when I tried to install OS9 it stated that it would not run on this machine.

Can anybody help?....what if anything am I doing wrong?

Can you try a 9.2.2 CD that came with 10.1.4 maybe?

The one you downloaded may be a bit too old.

I used a 9.2.1 Retail install DVD (I used it originally for the MDD G4 tower). Worked a treat -- I always do a clean install of "Universal" system software, then remove InfraRed, MacBook control panels etc.

Hope this helps a bit.
