NextSTEP / OpenSTEP

I have NextSTEP and OpenSTEP install cd's for cisc(next machines and x86) as well as risc(sparc and parisc) as well as the development cd's. I saw ns posted here. Is this a good place to post these disks, and if so does anybody want images of them?

I would love the install disks for NextStep/OpenStep x86. I have an old AthlonXP machine (2.0GHz, 512MB RAM) that would eat it up!

You can contact me at crai...@gmail.com

PS. I have actually used NextStep on generic x86 before, using a high-end imposition package at work. The people who supplied the box neglected to tell anyone the password, so it sat unused for about 90 days (I used it on the first day when it was still logged in). I must say I was very impressed by it.

oops rpangrazio - no email here, even in the SPAM folder?

Did you click on the email and fill out the captcha to get my full address, or just copy and paste (will not work).

Cheers.

I've played with OPENSTEP in VMware, it's a very elegant system and I still find it an improvement over its sucessor in terms of usability and even looks (never was much of a fan of Aqua)

The problem I've run into is the fact that so little in the way of software is available for it online. Once you've got the OS itself, the Lighthouse Software office apps and TIFFany II, there's nothing else really available anymore...

I have uploaded OpenSTEP to megaupload.
I'll email you the links. Let me know if you don't get it

I accidentally deleted the NextAdmin folder from my Cube. Does anyone have a NeXTSTEP 2.0 install disk (or alternately, can someone tar up the NextAdmin folder from a Cube running NS2.0?) Thanks.

Did the x86 version of this get posted? Or is it still in process?

I see NextStep 3.3, but assume that's for the 68k black hardware. Like macmeister, I have some an old machine that would be neat to convert for this purpose.

Not Exactly but RHAPSODY has been posted here for x86 and I read it's almost like NextStep
(never try NextStep)

and that's exactly what I did, I installed Rhapsody on a very old computer
with a Cyrix 66Mhz Processor

so it was well worth the effort and the learning curve.

You do know, we already have some NextStep install disks here, and a Rhapsody DR2 one.

Also, if someone could upload OpenStep to this site, then it would be great, as no-one would need to be e-mailed the disks. Smile

I didn't know DR2 worked on x86. I thought that was PowerPC only. Can the interface be switched the the original NeXTSTEP look, or is it only in the MacOS platinum?

And yes, I did know NeXTSTEP had been uploaded here. OpenStep for x86 is what I was referring to, in wondering if it had been uploaded.

Yes Rhapsody it works well on x86, really fast,
and the GUI looks like Mac OS 8

I have 2.0 somewhere but it's on optical disk and my drive is broken. I may eventually try to fix it but I don't know if I'll have any success.

For those who don't know NextSTEP 3.3 ran on x86, Next machines, HP PARISC workstations and Sun Sparcs. The CISC version will install on Next and x86. I have posted it to megaupload. I'll send anyone the links if they like. I also have OpenSTEP for x86 up there. Just email me.

I have it for the risc machines (HP's and Suns) as well if anyone is interested.

Rhapsody was OpenSTEP with a MacOS like interface grafted on top of it. I have that as well, but I don't recommend it. It was essentially Beta software and is very buggy. Try OpenSTEP
