Megaupload and our files

so I was going through the site yesterday and I noticed that most of the files over 150 mb are hosted on Megaupload and since they blasted into infinity by the US government (as a US citizen I would like to say I'm sorry world) I was wondering if all of the files have been archived other places (backups) or has everything gone to the great bit bucket in the sky?

I'd say that if it's been uploaded to the Macgarden servers and the megaupload was just another option, balrog can probably access the files and host them on another service (like mediafire).

If it's not backed up on macgarden, a list could be created and if someone has a copy somewhere they could replace it.

I just read today in a german news magazine, that they will put up some service called megaretrieval.com where people can get their stuff back on their disks. Can anyone confirm this?

There's some moves underway to try to get users reunited with their data before it's erased. Time will tell if they succeed. But this is the risk you take with "the cloud".

I believe you have to be the account holder of your data on megaupload.

If you watch the "recent changes" on this site you'll see people have been re-upping many of the files on other external sites.
