Macintalk 3 problem

Yesterday I tried to make my mac speak with macintalk.

I have the system 7 on my mini vmac.

I put Macintalk in the Extensions folder and I opened SimpleText.

Then, y write HELLO.

And when I clicked in SOUND and in SPEAK ALL, a message appears saying: A SYSTEM ERROR OCURED:

SIMPLETEXT, ILEGAL INSTRUCTION.

What I have to do?

Which System 7 ?

I remember this being released as a paid developer upgrade to System 7.1 (like AppleScript was), I'm also pretty sure it was more than just the extension, and that would have been MacinTalk v1. I think it only became standard fare in System 7.5.

@emi?mac: The MacinTalk 3 problem you have, is MIT3 requires a 68030 CPU or newer. What you want is MacinTalk 2, which is compatible with a Mac OS 6.0.7 or newer and can run on 68000 CPU's.

I could help you out with this, but... I'm on holidays in New Zealand right now and my archives are back in my home country... won't be seeing them for another month or so. Lucky me Smile

Someone may be able to help out tho' so hang in there.

Doh, I realised that I was talking mince. There was a major revision of MacinTalk for the Developer add-on for System 7.1, but it would not have been MacinTalk v3. Like others have said, you've been able (and so was I) to use the basic MacinTalk features back to my first owned Mac in 1987. Maybe before then too, but all I had access to was 512K's and MacPlus's, only the professors got Mac II's, one even got a £14,000 Sun mainframe to do number analysis - which we called "the fastest VT100 in the world".

Mike Tom Tom is quite right about MacinTalk 2. Try here:

MacinTalk 3, Tex-Edit and BasiliskII are working together pretty good, if you would like to try that combination.

I just tried this with MiniVMac System 6.08: http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/disability-solutions/s...
It works fine, Voice Box comes with a suitable Macintalk as well.
