Hardware and Full Systems

Hi,

I have been acquiring old macs and parts thereof and I have probably 4 extra working macs that I would sell if a good home could be found for them.

My question is whether it is appropriate to offer hardware on this site. I could always go down the eBay route, I suppose, but there is an interest here for the old macs.

An alternative to Ebay surely is desirable since many people offer crap on Ebay which they do not get sold on local or alternative market places. Also, there are many lies or wrong product descriptions on Ebay. Some people sell nikotin stinking computers on Ebay without telling, etc. However, hardware needs to be tested, and this is only possible on a local market or on a market where you can trust people. I personally only buy hardware from some selected people I know personally or get to know in person.

Whether appropriate or not; Logistics should be your overriding criteria. i.e; selling gear is going to be a localized (to you or your buyer) issue. Whereas the Mac Garden is a global affair. I can't see that selling stuff here would have much appeal. Hardware has limited appeal because it expensive to move.

Primarily the mac Garden is about what it says in the 1st sentence of the About page: Macintosh Garden: About

The Macintosh Garden is an abandonware games archive, dedicated in particular to supporting the Macintosh computer platform. A notable feature of Macintosh Garden is its emphasis on game emulation, encouraging users to run historical and in some cases genre-defining games, on modern systems.

This may or may not make sense because I suffer from a mild form of dyslexia and I am being forced now to add this comment via a freakingcaptcha. Good luck (for me if it gets through. Piss poor if I need to ****** edit it again because of my **&&TTT^T%%^^^ dissaBILITIES. bOO AND HISS ON THe CAPTCHA

Thanks for your comments. I know what the primary purpose of the Mac Garden is. This is why I was dipping my toe in the water to see if there was any interest or need in what I was proposing.

Hardware is expensive to move and logistics are a pain, but surface mail rates within one's continent aren't so punitive and logistics are a pain anyway when something is bought online.

For those in large countries, one doesn't have to wait very long for an old mac to turn up on eBay and then it still needs to be shipped, albeit at local rates. For those in smaller countries, one could be waiting quite a while. Because there is quite a community here, I was hoping that there would be a higher level of trust too. Feedback from the buyers would feed in to this level of trust.

On a side note, I know that my 4 extra Macs work and I have bought more VRAM, PRAM batteries, faster SCSI-drives, RAM and additional floppies so that they can be enjoyed at their maximum. I don't upload much abandonware on this site but I did make my (fiscal) contribution last Christmas and now I'm looking at other ways to which I can contribute.

I'll have a look at LEM Swap list, 68kmla.net and other such sites.

Me me me! I would be interested in cool vintage Mac hardware, still looking for a solid System 7 machine. And if I got it right, you are from switzerland which is not that far away? (lower shipping costs)

By the way, soudesune, I sent you an e-mail some time ago regarding the external CD ROM drive for the LC III - did you receive it?

Hi Bolkonskij,

This must be the other thread that you mentioned. I'll write in detail there what I have, what I'd like for it and how much postage will be.

I've got two or so fantastic machines, and I don't plan on selling them yet, I get to play multiplayer games on them.

I don't know, I generally prefer to rent a computer to make sure I have the latest equipment. But this could be neat in a vintage kind of way.
