Guess what I got us!!!

Hey guys, what's up?

Last night I tweeted @freeverse and asked about getting a copy of deathgrounds - and guess what happened? They replied back, telling me to email someone named Bruce.

I emailed him and here is what he wrote back:

Hi Noah,

Glad you guys will be able to preserve this game.

--LINK TO GAME REMOVED(don't want to run up freeverse's bill)--

That should be a full rip of the game from the Disc. We only have one copy left in the office, so I can't mail it out.

-Bruce

I'll be uploading it to macgarden -and- mediafire once I check the rip.

YAY Laughing out loud!!!

Looked at the .zip file. It looks fine - I'll translate it to a .sit file later and will (try to) upload it tonight! Sorry that it'll take so long. My internet connect upload speed is *really* slow.

I'm super excited about this Laughing out loud!

Great news. And kudos to Freeverse. This is the kind of e-mail you would never get from a company like Electronic Arts. Let's keep that in mind when we're looking for new OSX / iPhone games next time. Smile

Ok, so it turns out you need a copy of the deathground cd.

Bruce says he'll upload a disk image tomorrow.

I agree with you @Bolkonskij. It's incredibly awesome that freeverse actually *wants* us to preserve their software!

Thanks @MikeTomTom Smile!

Anyway, I won't be uploading deathground tonight - it'd be pointless as you need the cd to play.

I'll wait for Bruce to send a diskimage of the cd to me.

Hey guys, I've gotta request. Can someone with a faster internet connection translate a .dmg rip to a .iso or .cdr and upload it to macintosh garden and mediafire? It's about 434mb - to big for my internet connection to handle.

I'll create the page on mac garden.

Contact me for a link to the file.

I can download it and translate it to a toast file and re-up that, if you'd like.

Thank you nmz502. I have the dmg downloading now. Once I have a translated a working toast image (i'll test it on my powermac G4 first), I will archive that to a .sit and upload to mediafire and possibly another filesharing site; as I think it will probably be too large to host on the garden itself?

Okay here is a megaupload link as it is too large for my free mediafire account.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O0T6P4BQ

Contains Deathground.toast.zip. Unzip, ignore any invisible OS X files, then mount the Deathground.toast image using either Toast, Virtual DVD/CD Utility, or if emulating, by adding to the volumes list in Sheepshaver's preferences. The mounted disc should have 3 folders inside it:

Deathground ƒ
Demo Games (contains shareware boardgame collection. Enigma looked quite interesting)
Freeverse Toys (contains the infamous frivolous apps from freeverse, such as Jared and SimStapler)

Copy Deathground ƒ from the mounted cd image to the hard drive (for some people the Virtual CD Utility will cause a system hang at this stage so I would recommend Toast for those installing on native machines). Once copied over, the toast image file does not need to be mounted in order to play this game.

I gave it a spin, as the OP said it's Risk with a gangster twist, should be entertaining for strategy fans.

I will add this link to the page once it's confirmed to work for others using the archive of the image I've uploaded.

I've been thinking about the file size... considering it doesn't require the disc to run, the garden's policy would probably dictate that only the necessary files should just be stored in an archive, rather than a full disc image, to conserve bandwidth. however, we should also consider preserving the integrity of the donation that Freeverse have given us. Anyway, for now this should work, if someone wants to make a smaller upload of just the game they may do so.

A really worthy donation! Looks very good in the Shaver.
I think I´m going to mirror a img file on mediafire, once my Puma uploads are done.

@Mac Dro:

Complete images are greatly preferred over anything else. I don't exactly like unofficial modified versions floating around.

Ok cool, good to know. I was just basing that observation on some uploads I'd seen.
