In my opinion the misunderstandings begin, when someone in a group of people (could be a forum or a meeting in real life) starts speaking a language that only a minority understands. Those who don't know it will feel excluded and not respected. "Why are they not speaking in the language everyone understands? Are they hiding something, are they slandering about us?"

I personally believe (again, it is my opinion) that a lot of the misunderstandings between latinos and americans actually come from that fact. You can easily see that in english-speaking internet forums as well, where suddenly someone speaks spanish and then a few posts later someone else drops in and shouts something like "SPEAK ENGLISH like everyone here!". Clearly, it may not be very nice behavior, but it is understandable. Because he feels like I described above.

yes, it is part of life but some people leave because they are busy, have other obligations etc. and some leave because someone pissed them off. the difference is pretty significant. ideally, it's better for someone to leave on good terms and feel they are welcome back anytime. btw i'm sure your generosity (and humor) is appreciated around here.
