Games that you would like to see uploaded onto Macintosh Garden?

This is a topic where you can suggest names of abandonware game titles that you think should be uploaded onto this website, so then people are aware of games that might be worth posting. Here are a few I would like to play (unless, of course, some of them are still commercial games):

-Quake II
-Damage incorporated (A game ported from Marathon 2: Durandal's engine.)
-Rise of the Triad
-Myst

Here's the only two, aside from some After Dark screensavers, I can think of at the moment...
- Raptor: Air Superiority Fighter
I found some more info here
NOTE: the links to the source code, home page, and download are dead and have been for a long time

-Roboshop 4.0J (if possible)

(For those wondering what the After Dark screensaver were, they are "The Flinstones", "Uchu Senkan Yamato"(Space Battleship Yamato), and "Myst")

Keep in mind that I put up a 'Games wanted list' as part of the Uploading games to this website wiki. That might be a better place as anyone can edit a single list, rather than splicing it up in forum posts.

I'm also interested in Ice & Fire. The mac version exists, I had a demo of it ages ago.

I've got AD: Myst, and some other new AD goodies too. Will start uploading this weekend.

Are you sure there was an AD: Flintstones? As far as I can tell, the only Flintstones screensaver was released by the rival Delrina line. The "After Dark: Flintstones" serial number given on various pages is in the same 5000-0000-0000 form as Delrina's Dilbert SS, rather than the XXX-00000-0000 form of most AD packs, so the title is likely a misprint.

But then, now that space limits and the focus on games have been relaxed, we should accept all brands of screensavers.

As for the Yamato and Mighty Atom releases, they must have been sold only in Japan as they remain thoroughly obscure.

I'd love to see the Mac version of Seven Cities of Gold.

Grunt. It was included on an early MacAddict CD (which I no longer have).

I was able to find http://macintoshgarden.org/games/hemeko-attack-roboshop-40j. I sent an email to the creator of Raptor: Air Superiority Fighter and I'm waiting for a reply.

Thanks, Balrog! If the author doesn't reply, I'll try to compile what I have of the Raptor source code. Although at the moment, my computer's internet is going really slow (so it might be a while before I am able to download *anything* fast enough).

EDIT: The source code appears to be corrupt and missing some files.
EDIT 2: The source code also appears to have lost all of it's resource forks (I believe it was in a .zip file, which might explain why)

Since the page already exists, try posting the source code. Later, the source code can be combined with the binary app and re-uploaded.

As the second edit of my last post notes, the source code appears to have lost all of it's resource forks (meaning it's basically useless). I might have it elsewhere, though.

I did find another link to Raptor, but it's been dead for a long time:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030519140154/http://www.apple.ma/files/maco...
(Raptor is the last file)

P.S. If you want, I'll send you what I DO have.

Hmm ... maybe the software you're using to decompress the .zip doesn't decompress the resource forks properly ... did you use Stuffit Expander to decompress it?

Sure, I'll take a look at it.

I managed to extract the files from the computer and I'm using Stuffit 7 (both Classic and OS X versions). Feel free to send me an email when you're ready, Balrog.

Does anyone by any chance have ScummVM for OS 9? I'd love to play Simon the Sorcerer series and The Curse of Monkey Island on my old imac G3. Plus all the other games that the emulator enhances!

Thanks.

I don't have your email address, and I wouldn't post mine here. Could you rather upload the .zip to a site like mediafire or rapidshare and post the link here? Thanks!

Ya know what *I* think'd be cool ....
Classic Macintosh floppydisk shareware -- the first Macintosh Garden has this.
Like, for example, the one whose name escapes me [lol] where
you assign custom sounds -- even Star Trek ones -- to operationals: a window opening would make the door opening sound from Star Trek
and emptying the trash would sound a belch, etc., etc.

Or maybe some stuff from the classic Bekeley Macintosh User Group [BMUG] collection.

The good news is that I did find the files, but the bad news is that I couldn't the .zip file.

The files I found are currently up here:

@ j_damage•69: I don´t think ScummVM ever was developed for Mac OS 9. Most of the Macintosh versions ran, more or less, natively under OS9. Most problem seems to be with games demanding 16 colours. There´s certainly no mention of OS9 over at ScummVM´s site, I´m afraid.

Does the file you found work for you? I took a look at the archive and all the data is there, only it's split into two AppleDouble files. After rejoining, it works fine. The source code, if you have *any*, would be nice.

To rejoin, put '._Raptor 1.0.4' and 'Raptor 1.0.4' in the same directory (you may need to use Terminal), then while in that directory, run the command '/System/Library/CoreServices/FixupResourceForks .' (OS X) (don't ignore that dot!) The ''._Raptor 1.0.4'' file is buried in the '__MACOSX' folder and is invisible [as it starts with a dot].

The author hasn't responded yet. But the game seems to run fine.

I'll have a link to a DMG version up soon. You'll want to convert it to .sit or .img.bin (better) and post it.

I still would like any source code.

Sorry to disappoint you a bit, but I don't have a source code file. =( A bit of misconception on my part; I thought the application WAS the source code at first (don't ask; I downloaded this back in 2005 and that's how it ended it up when I downloaded it).

Make sure you fix the .sit on the download page. Does the .dmg I posted work for you?

The application launches up Script Editor for whatever reason. What can I do about this?

EDIT: Nevermind! It turns out all I had to do with the file in the .dmg was to add an ".app" to Raptor 1.0.4. Apparently, Mac OS X got confused with the file extensions, causing it to launch up Script Editor. I've fixed that now and it runs! W00t! Thanks, Balrog! I'll upload the fixed file as soon as I can! =)
EDIT 2: The fixed file is up now:

Drowned God – Conspiracy of the Ages Cool

As there´s some of us waiting for the raised max limit for uploads; would it be of any use to list each and ones resources which can´t be ul:ed at the moment? Could be helpful for 'wishers'.

We could advertise these future uploads so people get an idea of whats to come out of the site, when the upload limit has increased a bit. I was also thinking that the other day.

Good idea swede.

Unfortunately, disk space on the server is a problem right now. While we're working to get this fixed, it may take a while. Sad I have my own collection of CD games as well, so I know what you mean ....

What was that mid 90's mac adventure game where you went around in that taxi cab and you travelled back in time to the trenches of WW1 and the Roman Gladiator arenas? I remember one scene where a creepy looking gas mask wearing german was attacking you.

Yeah, space should be sufficient. I'll probably be moving stuff from the 'uploads' directory to my offline storage to make space for new content; if something you want disappears, just let me know Smile .

EDIT: The following 'upload' directory is what I'm talking about. http://www.macintoshgarden.org/sites/macintoshgarden.org/uploads/download/

Opinion sought on uploading Myth:TFL and Myth II:Soulblighter ?
If I was to rip out the international install files, leaving just the English language install, these would fit under the 400MB limit. There's also a third party update to play this under current OS X.

I have Myth II and I remember having trouble trying to make it run from a virtual disk. Can you tell me how are you going to do it? I want to do something similar with Future Cop LAPD.

By the way, if removing the international install is the only way to fit it into 400 MB, then go ahead.

I never had any issues playing Myth II with a read only Disk Copy image of the original disc. It may also have worked with a mounted locked Toast image. Except when my PBG3 only had a 4GB HDD in OS8.6, giving up 480MB was just too much to ask. Now, with the v1.5.1 patch and a 200GB disk, it still runs perfectly under OSX 10.3.9 and OSX 10.4.11.

I shall test a re-install with the stripped down disk image. I'll also test running it with locked Disk Copy (OS9-10.2) / Disk Utility (10.3 and later) images, rather than load a Toast image to the site. I'll upload overnight if it's successful. I'll do the same for Myth: TFL tomorrow.

Then there's all the expsnsions, many, many CD's full of these. We could upload just the one official one (name escapes me, took me a week to download the 90MB over dialup) and WWII: Recon.

There was also a Green Berets expansion released as commercial software. I've spent many, many, MANY years searching for this. Never found it. If someone here had it ......

Anonymous

Myth II won't work properly without "international small install" and "international large install" - those don't contain the stuff in other languages, but stuff that's in English (whereas localized copies just had different versions of those files in different languages).

As for Myth II plugins, don't put them here. There's already a great site for all the Myth II plugins you could ever want: tain.totalcodex.net

Also, for OS X, get Myth II 1.7 from http://getmyth.com/ and play online on MariusNet for free.

So you are using Disk Copy ... I though you were using Toast or something like that. I'll try to do a custom image for Future Cop LAPD with Disk Copy. If that doesn't work I'll just upload the demo.

So no Myth II huh? And I'm thinking the same it will be the same thing with Myth: The Fallen Lords. It's a shame but I don't complain. That's the way these things are.
