Elite force expansion problem

the elite force expansion has a problem. when i install it it asks for the cd when it is in the drive. when i click yes it takes me back to the main menu so i can't load anything. the original works fine.

P.S. please don't post in the comments. thats what the forum is for.

Well, after you get help in getting this game to play http://macintoshgarden.org/games/star-trek-voyager-expansion-pack you should think about updating the game page because I'm sure you're not the only one who will have this question (I've done this several times lately). Wink

Well, for you all...
All you need to do is to perform a new and clean installation from the StarTrek Voyager CD. Then, make a copy of the program SP (single player NOT holomacht) and store it stuffed (because the xp erases old versions and install carbonized stuff.)

Then, ¨mount¨ the expansion (without removing the EliteForce CD) and install it.

Inside this expansion, you can find a doc containing the ¨CD keys¨ and ¨Serial Number¨. Be sure of write it (no copy/paste) when its required. Play for while, then quit.

Unstuff your copy of the single player version and move it back to the Elite Force Folder. And there is. If you want to install the updates to carbon versions, i think they re still avariable at pure-mac.com.

All this works for me in a G4 PPC/Tiger-9.22.

Do you have the cd and the toast image both mounted when you start to play? when it ask for the cd, press yes.

it makes no difference. already tried ejecting one. it will do the exact same thing with both (elite force xp is a disk image, the origanal is not) ejected.

I think the software is the problem. not the hardware. if i had a copy i would of already put it on megaupload.

If anyone wants it, email me at macp...@googlemail.com, it's one of my disposable email addresses, so I may reply through a personal email address. I don't think it's something we should upload here.

there was a problem with the upload or something of the no cd patch. file sizes way to small (pk3 files 4 kb) and the installer application opened in text edit.

Maybe I didn't make it clear in the email.

Just mount the emailed toast image and play the game that is already installed.

If you read my 4th post i said you can eject both the images and it will do the same thing.
still think it is just the software.

I had no issues with this before, so I've trashed and re-installed both the Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, and the Expansion Pack. Both still work perfectly if I just mount the locked Toast disc image. Using OSX 10.3.9 on a dual G5.
I suggest that you do the same:

Trash the current install.
Re-install the original game, from a mounted, locked Toast disc image. I used a Custom Install, Base amd Game (not theOpenGL, etc extras).
Don't apply the v1.2 patch
Unmount the Elite Force disc image if you want
Install the Expansion Pack, from the mounted, locked Toast disc image.
Start playing.

Tell us what happens during the installs, and when you start playing.

i HAVE to use the 1.2 patch because classic uses up lots of cpu power and i only have a 366 mgz ibook and a 1.25 ghz g4.
other wise it is so jerky even on the lowest quality that it is unplayable.
And i am sorry if i am being sort of rude, i just really want to play this game.

i HAVE to use the 1.2 patch because ...

So how do you install the XP if you've already upgraded the main app to v1.2 ? The XP Installer fails.

The XP installer upgrades the app past v1.2 anyway - as well as adding new game files.

This is why I keep asking you to explain in detail what you do to install each, whether you use physical CD or disc image, how you mount the dsk images, whether they're locked or not, what issues you encounter, etc, etc. It needs to be step by step, not to be annoying, but so I can replicate it here.

First i delete the old instalation of elite force, then i start classic and re-install elite force from the cd i made. Then i quit classic and mount the elite force xp by double clicking (no other options even using disk utility.) on the toast image. and then i run the elite force expansion application and click on single player or virtual voyager, and it asks for the cd, i click yes and it takes me back to the main menu every single time. When i click no it just quits. and an extra issue is that i set the holomatch prefs so it thinks i entered the cd key when i did not but it still asks for it, no problems with the 1.2 patch with doing that.

... and mount the elite force xp by double clicking ...

What does this mean ? If it is a Toast disc image, does Toast launch to allow you to mount it ? is the disc image locked before you "double click" it ? Or does the OSX utility DiskImageMounter mont it ? For those of us with a physical CD, "double clicking" means nothing.

... and then i run the elite force expansion application and click on single player ...

What ? no running the XP installer from the mounted disc image ? It updates the Elite Force installed on your hard disk.

don't worry about the CD key thing, it just allows you to play holomatch, you still need the physical CD installed, or the disc image mounted in a way that it thinks the physical CD is inserted.

locked disk image opened with disk image mounter.
And i did run the xp installer, i just forgot to put that.
THEN i ran the elite force expansion application. there is also a problem with the icons.
it has the classic icons when the 1.2 has better looking ones.
and the installer read me even mentions the 1.2 patch

Excellent, sounds like you just need to mount the XP disc image with Toast to play the game. It is a Toast image isn't it ?

Toast has infinite more success at passing for the physical CD than DiskImageMounter.

Again, don't worry about the v1.2 patch. The XP installer updates the apps to v1.2 and later.

What's up with the icons ? I know the XP installer updates them, and the application names. Not sure what you mean by "it has the classic icons".

"which Mac OS ?"

9.2.2

as I said in my post....does not matter if its locked or unlocked

"Is it the same size as the advertised download ?"

yep

I did get it to work by burning it to a disk, but i would like to use it in disk image form because its faster
