Advanced Search By OS | Emulator App | Processor-Type

Hi all

I've just won an SE/30 online for myself and I'm rather happy. I've noticed, though, that the search for games and software for System 6 (for example) isn't all that easy.

If the admins are looking for suggestions for improvements to the site, I suggest some tick-boxes for OS, or even simpler, per emulator. That would mean a box for System 0-6|mini vMac|68K, System 7-Mac OS 8.1|Basilisk II|68K/PPC/Fat, Mac OS 8.2d8-9.22|Sheepsaver|PPC.

Ticking the boxes necessary would then display the software configured thus.

Many Thanks

There are boxes, for exactly those things, on every app. They just can't be searched or listed in that manner, unfortunately.

Hence my request. Since the software can be retrieved from the DB without too much difficulty, I hope that the request for a front-end modification is not unreasonable.

Just maybe another option, maybe that we should enter when we add the software, does it run under Classic ?

Classic shouldn't be mentioned. Classic Environment as such has been abandoned for recent Mac OS X versions. If a visitor reads it runs with Classic Environment of Mac OS X and he/she hasn't installed it, he wonder, why the site mentions it runs in Mac OS X.

A while ago, I started a compatibility chart on my own site, but I'm thinking about removing Classic Environment mentioned...

My personal opinions about Classic Environment, the best one is the one shipped with Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, which plays pretty with the Mac version of Monkey Islands 4. Mac OS X 10.3 and newer do not play the in-game movies...

Finally, I do see where you're coming from.

For years now, I've been using the term "Classic" for using my OS9.2.2 - the bootable version that came with my MDD - under OSX. Even then it's not just the vanilla version from the install CDs, it's been added to over the years I used OS9, adding support in native OS9 for many games.

But there is that awful trimmed down version of "Classic" OS9 - the sort that came with the OSX 10.3 Install CD /DVDs - that was only ever meant to be used in a Classic environment. It never gets any new extensions - ie. the Indeo / DivX / etc Video extensions to play those in-game movies.

Thank you for the good description why Classic Environment in Mac OS X does no longer works as expected. Smile

Where I'm coming from? First Mac was a Mac Classic with System 7 installed, back in 1992.

Back to my original suggestion, another thought has come to mind. Perhaps with those with access to the DB could produce a spreadsheet (Claris Resolve 1.1 perhaps) with the suggested queries as tabs. So, as of, say, 2010.02.01 all games and apps that run in System 6 or below would be in one sheet, those that require at least System 7 in another and so on.

Once the SQL is written, it would just be a matter of exectuing the queries, then cutting and pasting the results into the spreadsheet and uploading the file as a guide.

I'll do it myself if I'm giving access to the DBs or at least the CSV-files.
